Music Licensing

FAQ

What is a music license?

A music license gives you permission to use a track in your project. Our licenses are sync licenses: they let you put the music to picture in an ad, film, TV show, game or online video. Every license covers both the recording (the master) and the song itself (the composition), so you get both from one place and don't have to clear anything with anyone else.

You choose how you'll use the track, where it will be seen and for how long, and the price is set by those three choices. Your signed license PDF arrives by email, along with the download link to the track, as soon as payment clears.

What are territories?

A territory is a country where your project will be shown or distributed. Choose 1 Territory if your project is only running in one country (for example, a campaign that only airs in South Africa). Choose 3–5 or 5–10 Territories for regional rollouts, or Worldwide if it's going everywhere, you don't want to be limited by territory, or it will end up on a global platform where you can't limit who sees it.

If you're unsure, go one size up. Using the track outside your licensed territories needs an additional license.

How do the different usages work?

Pick the usage type that matches where your project will be used:

  • Online/Digital: web, social media, YouTube, paid digital ads, streaming pre-rolls, websites, podcasts and corporate or internal videos.
  • TVC Broadcast: TV commercials broadcast on television channels. This also covers cinema ads.
  • TV: TV programming such as series, documentaries, reality and broadcast content, whether on broadcast channels or streaming platforms.
  • Film: feature films, short films and documentaries for festivals, cinema, streaming and home release.
  • Gaming/Apps: video games, game trailers, in-game music and apps.

If your project spans more than one usage type, you need a license for each, or ask us for a custom license that bundles them.

What's the difference between traditional library music and licensing music from Haezerstudios?

Traditional library music, often referred to as stock or production music, is generally created specifically for licensing. It's designed to fill a wide range of briefs and is often produced in large volumes, with an emphasis on being functional and broadly usable.

Licensing music from Haezerstudios takes a different approach. Our catalogue brings together music from real artists, composers and producers, including tracks from their own releases and original compositions. It's music created to be listened to, not just to sit in a library waiting for a project.

Licensing is just as fast: choose your terms, pay, and download your track and license in minutes.

Can I use the music across multiple platforms?

Yes, within your usage type. For example, an Online/Digital license covers all online platforms: YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, websites and paid digital ads. Moving into another usage type, such as from Online/Digital to TVC Broadcast, needs a separate license for that usage too.

Can I use one track for multiple projects?

No. Each track license covers one project: the specific project named on your license.

You can use the track across different versions and cut-downs of that same project. For example, a 60-second online ad and its 30, 15 and 6-second cut-downs, or the same campaign running across Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, are all covered under one license. A separate campaign, film or production needs its own license.

Packages are the exception: a licensed package can be used on as many projects as you like. If you need single tracks for multiple projects or have an ongoing relationship with a brand, get in touch about a multi-use or custom license.

What happens when my license expires?

When your license term ends, the rights it gave you end too. You can renew before the expiry date by purchasing a new license through our platform for the period you need. If you don't renew, the track must be removed from your project and every placement it appears in.

Every license you own, with its expiry date, territories and usage type, is listed in your account. If you know a campaign will run long, a 3-year or perpetual license is usually the better buy.

Do I need to pay royalties or additional fees once a song is licensed?

You don't pay us anything beyond your license fee. There are no per-view, per-stream or per-airing charges.

One thing to know: broadcasters and some platforms pay public performance royalties to performing rights organisations such as SAMRO, ASCAP, PRS and BMI under their own blanket agreements. That's paid by the broadcaster, not by you. Broadcasters may ask you for a cue sheet, which lists the music used, and the details you need are in your license agreement.

Can I get a custom license?

Yes. If you need several usage types at once, an exclusive license, a license for the full catalogue, unusual territories, a buyout or terms that aren't on the rate card, get in touch with your brief, timeline and budget, and we'll put a custom license together.

What happens if my project changes or distribution expands?

If a campaign that started online goes to broadcast, rolls out to more countries or runs longer than planned, contact us before the change goes live. We'll issue an updated license and credit the fee you've already paid.

Using the track beyond your current license, even for a short time, counts as unlicensed use.

I'm an artist. How do I get my music on this site?

We sign a small number of artists whose music suits film, TV, advertising and games. Send a private streaming link to two to five tracks to hello@haezerstudios.com. Tell us who you are, whether you own your masters and publishing, and whether you have instrumentals and stems.

We listen to everything, but only reply to submissions that fit the catalogue. We offer a very friendly revenue split in favour of the artists we host on our platform.

What do I get when I buy a license?

You get an email confirmation with your signed license PDF, plus download links for the full-quality audio file and stems where available. You can also re-download files and view all your licenses and expiry dates from your account.

Do all songs have stems included?

No. Stems are included with selected tracks and packages at no extra cost, and are marked with a 'Stems' tag in the catalogue.

Can I edit the music?

Yes. You can cut, loop, shorten, fade and rearrange the track to fit your edit, and remix it using the stems for your project. You can't release the edited or remixed version as a standalone song, or use it outside your licensed project.

What are packages?

Packages are curated multi-track bundles at a fixed price, built for projects that need several tracks with a consistent sound, such as a series, a campaign or a game.

Once licensed, a package is cleared for perpetual, worldwide use across all media, on as many projects as you like.

Will I get a copyright claim on YouTube?

Add your YouTube channel name and URL at checkout, and they'll appear on your license. If a claim does come up, email us your license reference and we'll clear it.

Do I need to credit the music?

We ask for a credit where reasonably possible: 'Music: [Track] — [Artist] / Haezerstudios'.

Where a broadcaster requires a cue sheet, submitting it is your responsibility. All the details you need are in your license agreement.

What payment methods do you accept?

We take payment securely through PayPal, which also accepts most credit and debit cards without a PayPal account. Prices are in USD. Agencies that need an invoice or purchase-order process can contact us.

Can I get a refund?

Licenses are digital and delivered instantly, so we can't refund once a license has been issued and the files downloaded. If you bought the wrong usage, territory or duration, contact us straight away and we'll help you update your license and invoice or credit you for any balance.

Can I transfer my license to a client?

Licenses can't be resold or transferred. If you're an agency or production company licensing for a client, put the client and project name on the license at checkout so the license covers the end use.

Can I use the music to train AI?

No. You can't use any music from Haezerstudios to train, fine-tune or develop AI or machine-learning systems.

Can you compose original music for my project?

Absolutely. Haezerstudios also scores original music and does sound design and offline editing for film, TV and commercials. See Post Studio or contact us with your brief.
